Case study
The Chemical Brothers
Mind-bending chemicals, ground-breaking website. It’s hard to imagine but we’ve been responsible for the site for the official Chemical Brothers’ site for the past 15 years. A lot has changed in that time. For each new album we’ve built a new site to reflect the nuances of the release. So far I think it’s been around 5 sites with the odd microsite thrown in for good measure.

In 2019 we decided we needed a very quick approach to updating the site, but still wanted the flexibility to be able to do what we wanted. Since the site serves as a reference for all output from the band over the past 30 years we needed to be able to allow for this to be managed and accessed pretty easily. Similarly, for such a client we weren’t going to be shoehorning any of these requirements into anything run of the mill.
Front-end changes made easy!
For the first time we decided to use the popular site-building SaaS platform Webflow. This allows us full flexibility of the front end whilst producing a simple editor’s page for the site’s content to be managed. It’s fully managed, meaning that we never have to worry about traffic spikes or software upgrades. Furthermore re-skinning the site which we have done in its entirety this year took a fraction of the time to what it would have done using a standard CMS. Deployments? What deployments, it’s all taken care of with a button that simply says Publish!
We’ve had it featured in Google’s marketing for our innovative use of maps. The site continues to push boundaries and is a place where Chemical Brothers fans can find out up to the minute news. Integrating heavily with social media the site is a place where photos of gigs are pulled in from Instagram alongside X and TikTok posts from fans. This way of doing things ensured that the site is kept up to date with minimal effort from management.
This project really pushes the capabilities of Webflow to its limits. The whole site is tied up in a continuous scrolling interface that allows for splash areas to be easily swapped in or out to align with the latest marketing campaign.
